India currently has seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs):
1. IISER Berhampur (Odisha)

5. IISER Pune (Maharashtra)

Courses at IISERs:
- BS-MS (Dual Degree): This is the most popular program at IISERs. It is a 5-year integrated course where students earn both a Bachelor of Science (BS) and a Master of Science (MS) together.
- BS (4-Year Program): Some IISERs, like IISER Bhopal, offer a 4-year BS program in subjects like Engineering Sciences and Economics.
- Integrated PhD: After completing the BS-MS program, students can apply for an Integrated PhD, which combines a master’s and PhD degree.
- PhD: Students can also apply directly for a PhD program after completing their previous studies.

Admission Process
- IAT (IISER Aptitude Test): The entrance exam for IISER admissions.
- Exam Date: Scheduled for May 25, 2025.
- Additional Consideration: IAT scores are also accepted for *IISc Bangalore* and *IIT Madras BS programs.
Who Can Apply for IISER?
-Eligibility: Students who have passed Class 12 (Science stream) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biology (at least 3 out of these 4 subjects).
- Minimum Marks:
- General, OBC, and EWS categories:60%
- SC, ST, and PWD categories:55%
- Students appearing for Class 12 exams in 2025 can also apply.
- Age Limit:
Candidates should have been born on or after October 01, 2000.
Five years of age relaxation is given to SC, ST, and PWD candidates, i.e, these candidates should have been born on or after October 01, 1995.
Note: that, there is no restriction based on the completion year of Class XII.
IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) 2025 – Exam Details
- Exam Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
- Total Questions: 60 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes)
- Subjects & Timing:
- Physics – 15 questions (60 min)
- Chemistry – 15 questions (60 min)
- Mathematics – 15 questions (60 min)
- Biology – 15 questions (60 min)
- Marking Scheme:
- +4 marks for a correct answer
- -1 mark for a wrong answer
-0 marks if not attempted
- Total Marks: 240
- Syllabus: Based on the NCERT syllabus of Class 11 and 12
