Degree programs provided by IISc

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), located in Bangalore, stands as a premier institution renowned for its groundbreaking research in science and technology. It boasts a distinguished faculty, state-of-the-art learning resources, and affordable tuition fees. Among its flagship programs, the Bachelor of Science (Research) and Bachelor of Technology in Mathematics, each spanning four years, stand out as top choices for graduates of Science stream in high school.
Bachelor of Science (Research)
In the first three semesters of the four-year program, students learn basics in subjects like physics, chemistry, biology, math, engineering, and humanities. Then, they focus on specific areas like physics, chemistry, math, biology, materials science, earth sciences, and environmental science for the next three semesters. They also do a research project and take advanced electives in the fourth year.
Students interested in further study can add one more year to get a master's degree. The tuition fee is Rs 10,000 per year, and it's free for Scheduled Castes. To apply, students need at least 60 percent marks in the Plus Two exam in physics, chemistry, and math. Scheduled Caste students also need to pass the Plus Two exam. There are 111 seats, with an extra 10 percent for women.

Admission routes:
Admission is open to candidates who have participated in any of the following four exams and have met the required qualifications:

1. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) - Main - 2024

2. JEE Advanced - 2024

3. National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET UG) - 2024

4. Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (ISAR) Aptitude Test - 2024

Qualified candidates can apply through various channels and submit their applications via www.iisc.ac.in until May 7th. The application fee is Rs 500 for general/OBC/EWS categories and Rs 250 for SC/PWD candidates.

Scholarships:
Scholarships will be accessible via the INSPIRE/IISc Promotional Scheme depending on the chosen admission channel. Additionally, scholarships are provided by Indian and multinational agencies, corporations, and other entities. Further information can be found on the website.

Bachelor of Technology in Mathematics and Computing:
This exceptional four-year undergraduate engineering program is open to candidates who have completed their Plus Two education with physics, chemistry, and mathematics subjects. With a total of 52 seats available, the curriculum goes beyond mathematics and computing to encompass a wide array of science, humanities, and engineering subjects.
The program offers specialized tracks including Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Computational Science, Signal Processing, Theoretical Computer Science, Quantum Computing, and Computational Biology, along with options like mathematical finance. Students have the freedom to choose their preferred study track. Tuition fees amount to Rs 2 lakh per year, with additional fees applicable. However, Scheduled Caste students are exempt from paying any fees.
Admission to the program is based on JEE Advanced rank, and applications can be submitted from May 15th to June 12th. Application fees are Rs 500 for General/OBC/EWS candidates and Rs 250 for SC/PWD candidates. Applicants are only required to update their JEE Advanced rank details later.
