WHY OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY IS IMPORTANT

Opportunities in Oil and Gas Industry
The oil and gas industry is a big part of the world economy. It helps supply energy and creates lots of jobs. Skilled people can find good careers in many countries that export oil. There are also other jobs in this industry that people might not know about. Working in oil and gas can be exciting and adventurous. Many big companies like British Petroleum, Chevron, Total, and Shell operate in this industry. You can work both offshore and on rigs.
There are different areas where you can find job opportunities, like mining, oil production, processing, quality control, marketing, exports, trade, safety, and services. Countries like the United States, the UK, Canada, and Australia, as well as European countries, offer many job opportunities. In the Asia Pacific region and the Gulf countries, the oil industry is growing. Anyone who's qualified can work in this field. There are many products in this industry, like petrol, diesel, and other fuels.

What do you need to learn to get a job in this area?
To get a job in the oil and gas industry, you need to learn about three main areas: upstream, midstream, and downstream. Each area has different types of jobs.
In the upstream, you'll be involved in finding and extracting crude oil from underground. Midstream focuses on storing and transporting the oil. Downstream involves refining crude oil into products like petrol and kerosene.
There are various jobs available for qualified individuals, including technicians, supervisors, and managers. You can take skill development courses under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) standards to improve your chances.
For those who've completed 10th or 12th grade, an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) course can lead to technician-level jobs. Diploma and engineering degree holders can aim for supervisory roles. Engineering graduates in fields like mechanical, petroleum, mining, chemical, and others can directly work in the industry. Those with engineering degrees can further specialize in areas like piping engineering. There are also online and certificate courses available, such as PG Diploma in Oil and Gas Management and P.G. Certificate in petromarketing. Additionally, programs like BBA and B.Sc. are also offered.
To get a job in the oil and gas industry, it's good to have a bachelor's degree in subjects like physics, geology, engineering (like chemical, petroleum, mechanical, electrical, IT, or environmental). They are the best qualifications.
The industry is also using new technologies like automation, robotics, IoT, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain.
If you want to work in this field, you need to be interested, good at it, determined, and willing to take risks. It's important to take vocational courses and find internships or apprenticeships. Besides qualifications, it's important to get certifications, especially in safety.
Top Courses
Some top courses for those interested in the oil and gas industry include the Driller, Drilling Engineer, and Fluid Engineer programs by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), as well as the NEBOSH - International Technical Certificate in Oil and Gas Operational Safety.
For engineering studies, you can consider colleges like the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology.
To get into these colleges, you can take exams like JEE Main for admission into about 40 institutions including NITs. Completing JEE Advanced can get you into an IIT. There are also various other technical programs available.
