NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DESIGN INDIA (NID) for Design Studies

The National Institute of Design (NID), a prestigious institution for design studies under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is currently accepting applications for its Bachelor of Design (BD) and Master of Design (M.D.) programs. Admission to these programs is determined through the Design Aptitude Test (DAT), a national-level examination consisting of two stages: the preliminary and the final rounds. The preliminary examination for both programs is scheduled for December 24. The deadline for submitting applications is December 1 at 4 pm, with an application fee of Rs 3,000. However, scheduled and differently-abled candidates can apply with a reduced fee of Rs 1,500. Late applications will be accepted until December 3, subject to an additional late fee.
B.DS.

The National Institute of Design (NID) offers four-year B.D. programs not only at its main campus in Ahmedabad but also in four other locations: Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Assam. Eligibility criteria include passing the Plus Two examination, and candidates from any academic stream can apply. Those who are currently in the process of taking their exams are also eligible to apply. Additionally, individuals who have completed a three-year engineering diploma can also apply.
The Ahmedabad campus provides specialized B.D. programs in areas such as exhibition design, animation film, graphic design, film and video communication, ceramic and glass design, furniture and interior design, product design, and textile design. The other campuses in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Assam offer specializations in communication design, industrial design, and textile and apparel design.
The main examination for qualified candidates from the preliminary round will take place on April 27 and 28, with results expected to be announced on May 21.

M.DS:
The Master's in Design Studies (MDS) program is available at the Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Gandhinagar campuses, with a duration of two and a half years. Eligible candidates include those who have completed a three to four-year degree program after their Plus Two education or hold a four-year diploma in design, fine arts, applied arts, or architecture. Final-year students can also apply.
The Ahmedabad campus offers specializations such as animation film, film and video communication, graphic design, ceramic and glass design, furniture and interior design, product design, and textile design. Meanwhile, the Gandhinagar campus provides specializations in photography, toy and game design, transportation and automobile design, new media, strategic design management, apparel design, and lifestyle accessory design. Bengaluru campus offers specializations in universal design, digital game design, information design, interaction design, and design for retail experience.

Applicants can apply for a maximum of two programs, with an application fee of Rs 3,000 for each program. The main examination will be conducted between March 3 and April 6 for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria in the preliminary round, and the results will be announced on April 30.
