The Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) is an entrance examination administered by IIT Madras, offering aspiring candidates the chance to pursue advanced studies in the field of science at prestigious institutions like IITs, NITs, and IISc.
The examination is scheduled for Sunday, February 11th, with admit cards becoming accessible on the website starting from January 8th. Results will be disclosed on March 22nd, and the scorecard can be downloaded between April 2nd and July 31st.
Programs:
M.Sc., M.Sc. SC (Tech), M.S. (Research), M.Sc. - M.Tech Dual Degree, Joint M.Sc- Ph.D., M.Sc.-P. The JAM score is utilized for admission into integrated dual-degree programs.
Institutions for Admission:
There are approximately 3,000 available seats across the following IITs: Bhilai, Bhubaneswar, Bombay, Delhi, Dhanbad, Gandhi Nagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Mandi, Palakkad, Patna, Roorkee, Tirupati, and Varanasi.
A strong JAM score is a prerequisite for admission to numerous PG and Integrated courses at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, as well as institutions like IISERs (Bhopal and Pune), NITs, Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy Visakhapatnam, and Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore.
Furthermore, approximately 30 institutes, including the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology in Pune, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology in Shibpur, and Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology in Punjab, also consider JAM scores for their various PG programs.

Eligibility Requirements:
- Graduation serves as the minimum qualification.
- Even final-year undergraduate students are eligible to apply.
- The information booklet provides details regarding the specific undergraduate subjects required for admission to each program, as well as the subjects to be covered in the JAM examination.
- There is no restriction on the number of times you can take the JAM exam.
- There is no age limit for applicants.
The Examination Details:
- The test will cover seven subjects: Biotechnology, Chemistry, Economics, Geology, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, and Physics.
- This is a computer-based examination, comprising two sessions.
- In the morning session, Chemistry and Geology, as well as Mathematics, will be administered.
- In the afternoon session, the subjects covered are Biotechnology, Economics, Mathematical Statistics, and Physics.
- Each exam has a duration of three hours.
- Differently-abled candidates will receive an additional one-hour extension, and the test consists of 60 questions, each worth 100 marks.
Exam Format:
- The exam comprises three question types: Multiple Choice (30 questions), Multiple Select (10 questions), and Numerical Answer Type (20 questions).
- In the Multiple Choice section, one mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
- Candidates can opt to write one or two papers, with only one application required.
- Previous year's questions can be found on the website, and mock tests will soon be accessible.
Exam Centers:
- Various examination centers are available across different zones.
- In Kerala, the IISc Bangalore zone includes Kannur, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Thrissur, and Vadakara.
- Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kollam, Kottayam, and Thiruvananthapuram fall under the IIT Madras zone.
- Applicants should prioritize selecting three examination centers within the same zone.
- There are no examination centers abroad.
Application Process:
- Applications can be submitted on jam.iitm.ac.in until October 13.
- The application fee can be paid online.
- The fee is Rs 1800 per paper, while two papers are priced at Rs 2,500.
- Female candidates, as well as those in the SCHEDULED and differently-abled categories, only need to pay Rs 900 for one paper or Rs 1250 for two papers on jam.iitm.ac.in.
