IISc offers opportunities for students in the Plus Two level to pursue their studies.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore is globally recognized as a premier institution for scientific research. It offers exceptional academic programs for students who have completed their Plus Two Science education and seek admission into esteemed programs. Notably, the institute provides excellent opportunities such as the four-year Bachelor of Science (Research) and Bachelor of Technology in Mathematics and Computing programs.
Bachelor of Science (Research):
The initial phase of the four-year (eight-semester) program at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) encompasses the first one-and-a-half years, consisting of three semesters. During this period, all students engage in fundamental studies in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, engineering, and humanities. Subsequently, the following one-and-a-half years are dedicated to intensive exploration of specialized subjects, allowing students to delve deeper into fields such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, materials, earth, and environmental science.
In the final year of the program, students are required to complete advanced elective courses alongside a research project. For those interested, there is an option to extend their studies for an additional year to obtain a master's degree (MS). The annual tuition fee for the program is Rs 10,000.
Eligibility:
Applicants who have successfully completed their Plus Two (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) in 2022 with a minimum of 60 percent marks, as well as those who have appeared for the examination in 2023, are eligible to apply. However, it is mandatory for Scheduled Caste individuals to have passed their Plus Two examination.
Entry Routes:
Candidates who have participated in any of the following five examinations and have achieved the required qualification are eligible for admission.
1. Kishore Vigyan Protsahan Yojana (KVPY): Candidates who have taken the KVPY-SA 2021 exam and are eligible for the fellowship. (Please note that the KVPY exam has been discontinued now.)
2. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) - Main 2023
3. JEE Advanced 2023
4. National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET UG) - 2023
5. Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (ISER) Aptitude Test 2023
Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria can submit their applications through various channels. The deadline for application submission is May 31, and all applications must be submitted via the official website iisc.ac.in. The application fee is Rs 500 (Rs 250 for SC/PWD candidates).
Scholarship Opportunities:
Through entry routes such as KVPY, INSPIRE, and the IISc Promotion Scheme (IIScP), eligible candidates can avail themselves of scholarships. Additionally, students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance may also receive scholarships from Indian and multinational agencies as well as business houses.
Bachelor of Technology in Mathematics and Computing:
Introduced recently, the Bachelor of Technology program in Mathematics and Computing is a graduate-level engineering program. Alongside in-depth study of mathematics and computing subjects, students are also exposed to a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses science, humanities, and engineering subjects.
The program offers a wide range of study tracks including Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Computational Science, Theoretical Computer Science, Quantum Computing, Signal Processing, and Computational Biology. Additionally, students have the opportunity to specialize in areas like mathematical finance based on their interests.
Admission to the program is determined by the ranking in JEE Advanced 2023. Detailed information regarding this year's admissions will be soon provided on the official website iisc.ac.in.
