There are many career opportunities for those who want to pursue further studies in allied fields of mathematics. Candidates can now apply for admission to two leading institutes providing learning opportunities in this field. Let's get acquainted with these institutions.
Indian Statistical Institute
The ISI, or Indian Statistical Institute, is a well-known educational institution that offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in mathematics and statistics. Along with its main campus in Kolkata, the ISI also has centres in Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Tezpur that offer valuable resources for studying and researching statistics-related subjects. Graduates from the ISI have the opportunity to benefit from partnerships with prestigious universities and academic/industrial centres around the world, as well as attractive job placements.
The ISI provides undergraduate programs such as B.Math (Hons) and B.Stat (Hons) that span three years. B.Math (Hons) is available at the Bengaluru campus and graduates can go on to pursue advanced studies in areas like Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, and Mathematical Physics. Meanwhile, B.Stat (Hons) is offered at the Kolkata campus, which includes education in Statistics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. After completing the program, students can consider higher studies in fields like Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, and Economics.
The courses are open to candidates who have studied Mathematics and English and are eligible for plus two, as well as those who are appearing for the exam. Applicants can choose a course based on their interests. The entrance exam for mathematics will consist of multiple choice and descriptive questions. Candidates who have performed well in the National Mathematical Olympiad may be eligible for relaxation in the entrance exam, subject to certain conditions.
Apart from the tuition fee exemption, students pursuing B.Stat (Hons) and B.Math (Hons) at ISI are eligible for a monthly stipend of Rs. 5,000 and a yearly contingency allowance of Rs. 5,000. The general category has 63 seats, and there are 16 additional seats reserved exclusively for female candidates. The institute also offers seat reservations for OBCs, Scheduled Tribes, Economically Backward Classes and people with disabilities.
The application process for admission to ISI is conducted through its website https://www.isical.ac.in/ and the deadline for application is April 5. The entrance exam is scheduled to take place on May 14 and will be held across 66 examination centres, including ones in Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Coimbatore, Bengaluru and Chennai. The application fee is Rs 1,500 for general category boys, Rs 1,000 for girls, and Rs 750 for those belonging to reserved categories. In addition to degree programs, ISI also offers various opportunities for masters of science, M.Tech, PG Diploma programs, and research at different centers. More information about these programs can be found on the institute's website.

Chennai Mathematical Institute
*Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI)*, a highly acclaimed institute for mathematical studies and research in India and abroad, offers two types of three-year BSc (Hons) programs that cover mathematics, computer science, and physics, as well as MSc and various research programs.
Candidates who have completed their plus two studies and are appearing for the exam in 2023 are eligible to apply for CMI. The entrance exam is scheduled to be held on May 7. The website, https://www.cmi.ac.in/, provides access to the syllabus of the written exam, question papers, and answers to previous years' exams. Candidates who have excelled in the National Science Olympiads may receive a concession in the entrance exam. Depending on the candidate's financial background, they may also apply for a partial or full fee waiver.
To secure admission, applicants need to submit their applications online on or before April 9, through the website https://www.cmi.ac.in/. The entrance examination will be conducted at various centre’s including Kozhikode, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
