    Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) have invited
    applications from candidates for admission to Masters and Doctoral programmes. IISER
    is a unique initiative in science education in India where teaching and education
    are totally integrated with research. Each IISER is an autonomous institution
    conducting its own Masters and Doctoral programmes. Students are encouraged to
    work on research projects during the vacation periods in the first four years
    of their Masters programme in various research institutes outside IISER. There
    are five centres in India at
    Bhopal,
    Kolkata, Mohali, Pune and Thiruvananthapuram.

     

    Admission to 5-Year Integrated Masters
    (M.S.) Programme

    Applications are to be submitted online as per the instructions provided
    on the website. Apply Online before April 3, 2009 (for KVPY sream) or between
    May 30 and June 19, 2009 (for IIT JEE stream) by clicking here

    Eligibility Criteria: Passed 10 + 2 or its equivalent examination: passed
    in 2008 or appearing in 2009 and have also qualified in one of the following
    examinations:

    Kishore Vaigyanic Protsahan Yojna (KVPY) SX (2009), SA (2007) and SP
    streams. IIT JEE-2009 merit list or extended merit list.

    Availability of Seats and Reservations: Each IISER will be admitting about 100 candidates.
    The percentage of seats reserved for different categories as per the Government
    of India norms are:

    15% for Scheduled Class (SC) category. 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes (ST )
    category. Up to 27% for eligible Other Backward Classes (OBC) category
    (non-creamy layer). Remaining seats are available for General category. Up to
    3% for Physically Disabled (PD) candidates in all the four categories (General,
    OBC, SC
    and ST)

    Counseling: Counseling for the admission will be held on May 6,
    2009 for KVPY stream applicants and on July 2, 2009 for IIT JEE 2009 applicants
    simultaneously and concurrently at all IISERs. A non-refundable counseling fee
    of Rs. 1000 will be charged at the time of counseling. This amount will be
    adjusted against the tuition fee for selected candidates at the time of
    admission.

    Admission

    The list of the selected candidates will be announced after counseling is
    completed at all IISERs. Selected candidates should deposit full admission fees
    within 15 days of issue of the offer letter, failing which the offer will be
    withdrawn.

    National Institute of Epidemiology (ICMR), Chennai, under Department of Health Research, Government of India, has invited applications from Medical Graduates for admission to the Master of Applied Epidemiology and Master of Public Health (Health Services Development and Research) off-campus courses, of the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum, recognized by Medical Council of India, conducted by ICMR School of Public Health at the National Institute of Epidemiology, Chennai. Both Courses extend from July 2009 to June 2011.

    The Master of Applied Epidemiology (Field Epidemiology Training Programme) (MAE-FETP) course aims to develop and strengthen action-oriented competencies among the scholars in (i) Bio-statistics and Epidemiology (ii) Health Information Systems/Surveillance (iii) Outbreak Investigation and Response (iv) Epidemiological Investigations (v) Human Subject Protection (vi) Oral Scientific Presentations and (vii) Scientific Writing. Admission is open to Government sponsored and Private candidates. 15 candidates will be admitted. Preference will be given to candidates sponsored by the Central/State Governments /Union Territories and Armed Forces. Two seats are reserved for candidates from North- Eastern States of India (Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya).

    The Master of Public Health (MPH) (Health Services Development and Research) course is designed to introduce the students to the basic principles of Public Health, with emphasis on Public Health practices in India. It will cover the overall scope and functions of Public Health including organizational aspects of the Public Health system. The course will provide the students with the basic concepts and tools for good Public Health practice.

    Applicant should have a M.B.B.S. Degree recognized by Medical Council of India, should be working in Public Health, preferably in State or Central Government Department or in Medical institutions sponsored on deputation for two years on full-time basis, should have 3 years experience in Public Health related activities, should below 40 years as on 1.7.2009 which may be relaxed up to 5 years for deserving candidates.     KLE University, Belgaum, Karnataka-590010, has invited applications for admission to the MBBS/BDS Course for 2009-10 in its constituent colleges. There are 150 seats for MBBS at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum and 100 seats for BDS at KLE V.K.Institute of Dental Sciences, Belgaum.

    Admission will be based on the Under Graduate All India Entrance Test (UGAIET) to be conducted on 26th April 2009 (Sunday), from 10 am 1 pm at Belgaum, Bangalore, Pune, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Indore, Panjim, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Kolkata, Jaipur, Gauhati, Tirupathi and Vijayawada. The exact venue for majority of the centres is given in the Information Brochure available at the website while it will be announced later in case of others.

    The KLE-UGAIET-2009 will consist of one paper containing 200 multiple choice objective type questions with 50 each from Physics, Chemistry, Botany & Zoology. Each correct answer will get one mark. There is no negative marking.

    Applicant should have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate Examination PUC II/HSC/Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE)/any other examination equivalent to 10+2/HSC examination of any recongnized Board/University from any School/College situated in India/Abroad after 12 years of study. Applicant should have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English individually & must have obtained at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology taken together and also should have scored 50% marks in English language, in the qualifying examination. Applicant should also secure at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology taken together at KLE-UGAIET- 2009. Those appearing/have appeared for the qualifying examination can also apply provisionally. Applicant should complete 17 years of age on or before the first day of December 2009.

    Twenty percent seats are reserved under Management category including seats for NRI/and Foreign students. 2.5% of seats are reserved for children of teaching faculty of KLE University (KTC category) and 7.5% of the total seats are reserved for students hailing from educationally backward Belgaum Revenue Division consisting of districts of Belgaum, Dharwad, Karwar, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Haveri and Gadag (BRD category).

    Application can be submitted online till 8th April, 2009. Applicant has to take a Demand Draft for Rs.1500/- favouring Registrar, KLE University, payable at Belgaum, Karnataka before commencement of online submission, as these details are needed while submitting the application online. After submission, a copy of ‘online’ submitted application form must be printed and sent to ‘The Registrar, KLE University, JNMC Campus, Nehru Nagar, Belgaum, Karnataka-590 010’, along with the DD and other documents specified.

    Application form and Information Brochure can be obtained from the University by sending a processing fee of Rs.2000/- only by way of DD favouring Registrar, KLE University, payable at Belgaum, Karnataka.

    The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK), will hold the Under Graduate Entrance Test 2009 (UGET 2009) for admission to the Undergraduate Courses in Private, Unaided, Medical and Engineering Colleges of Karnataka for the academic year 2009-10, on 17th May 2009. Admissions will be based on Entrance Test and Centralized Counseling. There is no common Entrance Test for admission to BDS during 2009-10.

    Applicants should have passed the 2nd PUC/12th Std or equivalent examination. Candidates who are appearing for these examinations and expecting the results may also apply.

    Eligibility for MBBS will be as fixed by Medical Council of India and that for BE will be as per the All India Council for Technical Education norms. Applications can be submitted online from 9th March 2009, at www.comedk.org, after obtaining a DD for Rs.650/- for 3 subjects (PCB or PCM) and Rs.850/- for all 4 subjects (PCMB), in favour of COMEDK-2009, payable at Bangalore.
