Differential Aptitude Test Details

Aptitude is the inborn capacity of an individual to accomplish a career. Aptitude is the most important factor in planning in the career of a student. Experts in the field on the basis of many researches emphasise that if a student chooses a career which suits his aptitude with supplementary training he can become a star performer in the field and vice versa. So knowing the aptitude is very crucial in the career planning of student. CIGI has designed a very practical workshop which has been successfully conducted in India and in the Middle East in schools like International Indian School, Riyadh & Jeddah ( Saudi Arabia) Sharja Indian School & Progressive Indian School (UAE), Indian Community School (Kuwait)

Tool Used

Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) Battery of Psychological Corporation, New York which was developed by George K Bennett, Harold G Seashore, and Alexander G Wesmath has been used for the test. This tool is most widely accepted and used for aptitude testing.

The tool tests various dimensions like Verbal reasoning, Abstract Reasoning, Numerical reasoning , Clerical (speed and accuracy), Mechanical reasoning, Spatial reasoning, Language- spelling , Language – Sentences

Participants

For continuity and consistency we prefer students who are studying in X to XII. Students from IX can do the test

Nature & Duration of the Camp

The test camp will have three segments (A) Pre –Test Career planning session of one hours. (B) Test session of 3-5 hours and (c) Post Test session on career openings. To avoid the carry over effect of the test there will breaks with refreshing edutainment games. Generally we need 5-6 hours for the workshop.

Counselling

Result of the test will be prepared within seven days and it will be given to students along with parents by individual counselling. The faculty of CIGI help the parents and students which course will be suitable for them on the basis of aptitude.

The Faculty

The resource persons who administer the test, handle the sessions and counsel the students are professionally qualified in the disciplines of education, psychology and statistics, career guidance and counselling and trained by the Centre by the senior faculty of institutions like Indian Institute of Psychomatry (Culcutta) and Regional Institute of education, Mysore. They are experienced with handling the projects, workshops, and test constructions in the same field.

DAT is not a test where students fail or pass. It is an exploratory career mapping workshop wherein every body finds their ‘ right court to play the game’
